In an amusing turn of events, prominent Japanese history commentator and educational author Shunichiro Kanaya discovered his study guide featured in an adult video set in a classroom.

Kanaya, a well-known instructor and author of Toshin Books' popular Japanese History Q&A Complete Edition, reacted to a viral post showcasing an actress playing a teacher while holding his textbook. Instead of expressing annoyance, Kanaya voiced surprise at the set design's high production value and attention to historical detail. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he noted how impressed he was by the chalkboard writing behind the actress, which accurately detailed key historical events like the arrival of firearms and Portuguese influence during the Azuchi–Momoyama period.

When a follower asked if he felt excited about the appearance or had watched the video, Kanaya candidly replied that he hadn't seen the production because he was never officially notified about his book's usage.

Despite the unconventional product placement, the viral moment paid off for the author in an unexpected way. Kanaya's post quickly went viral, pulling in millions of views and sparking widespread laughter across social media.
