Running Man Is Officially Uncancelled
This is a great news if you're a fan of the Korean variety show Running Man. SBS has revealed that Running Man is officially uncancelled. The broadcasting company revealed in a statement that Running Man will not be ending after weeks teasing the end of the show.
It was originally announced that Running Man would be shutting down on February 2017 after a controversial decision to remove Kim Jong Kook and Song Ji Hyo from the show on December 13th, 2016 and received massive backlash from fans. Kang Gary also has deleted all his photos off Instagram just a few hours after it was announced Song Ji Hyo and Kim Jong Kook would be leaving Running Man.
The official SBS statement said:
“Running Man will continue to air with all the members in place!!
Due to the overwhelming sadness of both Korean and International fans over the end of Running Man, SBS and the 6 members have decided to continue the Running Man series.
SBS’ Chief of Headquarters, Nam Seung Yong, who originally created the show Running Man in 2010 has been meeting with the cast since the beginning of the year until recently to have deep conversations [about Running Man].
Through these conversations he apologized to the members over and over again for the incidents that happened during the re-formatting of the show. The 6 members agreed to stay on the show [after these discussions].”
SBS Chief of HQ Nam Seung Yong also made a statement that:
“I sincerely thank the Running Man members who made the difficult decision to stay on the show. In order to repay fans who loved and supported the show for the last 7 years, we will do our best to make Running Man even more enjoyable.”
An interview by Sports Donga he also said:
“Running Man isn’t just a variety program. It boasts 100 million fans just overseas and I don’t think it’s fair not to reflect their opinions and decide the fate of the show just because of internal problems.
I believe the correct path is to undergo change in order to become a better show and give more to the fans. That is why we are back.”
He also revealed that they had no immediate plans cast of new members joining the show after Kang Gary leave Running Man.
“We’re keeping the possibility open, but it’s hard to recruit someone right away. The original cast will continue to keep Running Man moving forward and we’ll keep looking for someone to fill Gary’s void. I think this is something we’ll have to keep working on to figure out.
I’m sorry to the viewers for worrying them so much with these incidents. The 6 members of Running Man are back and ready to run. Please support their future as much as you have loved them so far.
I will also support them so they do not get tired from running.”
The good news for Kang Gary fans, after Running Man is officially uncancelled, Gary revealed that he would like to come back again to Running Man for a special episode who were focused on each member as a way for the members to say “goodbye episode” to fans when Running Man cast thought it will be ended next month. Hope SBS will fulfill his wishes.
